Student leaders vow for servant leadership

By: Nigel Justin Thomas Hernandez.

Senior and Junior High School Student Government, Homeroom and Club Officers took their oath of office at the St. Francis of Assisi Church last July 21. Rev. Fr. Roque Aristotle B. Padama, OFM Cap., the school rector, along with Bro. Jose Eduardo A. Mayo, OFM Cap., the campus minister, presided the celebration of the Holy Eucharist before leading the induction rites of the student leaders. In his homily, Mayo focused on the attitude of a servant leader, taking inspiration from the life and works of St. Lawrence of Brindisi, whose feast was celebrated at that day.

He also emphasized on how a student leader should be fulfilling his duties, becoming a role model, and asking for help in his work. After the induction ceremony, Miguelito S. Yamamoto and Martin Els C. Candelaria, the Senior and Junior High School Student Government Presidents, respectively, delivered their speeches addressed to the LSM community. Yamamoto recalled the experiences that motivated him to respond to the call of leadership and service.

“I had yet to fully perceive the idea of what service meant, and I was only able to see it for myself in the act of giving. [It was] sixth grade when another devastating typhoon struck the country, and I was called to participate in relief operations in the affected areas of Mandaluyong. I will never forget that day, the very first time I answered God's call,” he said.

Meanwhile, Candelaria asked for the community’s support in the aspirations of the High School Student Government. “I feel like I share the same sentiments with my fellow Student Government officials when I say this: Excellence is easier achieved through cooperation. After all, through a system of cooperation, institutions such as our very own school thrive and succeed,” he highlighted. Administrators, teachers and students of the High School Department together with the parents of the Junior and Senior High School Student Government officers witnessed the said event.

The Junior High School Student Government includes: Martin Els C. Candelaria, President; Doenne-Nyelle R. Torreno, Vice President; Lyle Julian O. Quiling, Secretary; Jean Andre C. Silva, Grade 10 Batch Representative; Andrei Philippe De Jesus, Grade 9 Batch Representative; and Nikolo Miguel S. Torres, Grade 8 Batch Representative.
