The Link hones journalism skills

By: Paolo Luis Caluag

The Link journalists attended #TuneUp, a seminar-workshop aimed at developing leadership and journalism abilities, last June 8 to 9. The summer training provided The Link members an opportunity to enrich their understanding on different fields of journalism and establish relationships with each other before the school year had started.

In his remarks, Mr. Jeffrey Joseph Caramoan, The Link adviser, welcomed the campus journalists to another working year and encouraged them to pursue excellence in journalism. He challenged the members “to think, to write and to inspire” as stated in the motto of the school paper.                         .

Resource speakers were invited to share their knowledge and expertise in the various parts of the publication, namely Ms. Margarette Rose Villaflor for News and Sports Writing; Ms. Marie Jeanne Krisha Bayanay for Feature and Science and Health Writing; Ms. Cyrene Mae Lasquite for Editorial Writing; Mr. Ghener Abad for Literary Writing; Mr. John De Leon for Photojournalism and Cartooning; and Mr. Ted Guadamor for Layouting.

“The speakers made us realize some of the things that we lacked and how we could make the next issues of The Link better,” said The Link editor-in-chief, Michael Harvey Saňga.

IMoreover, he added that the training emphasized on producing quality articles and outputs that can spark the interest of the students.

The second day of the event allowed each section of the publication to plan the topics for their work and share suggestions to improve existing practices.

In addition, it featured teambuilding activities that involved journalism concepts and leadership principles. The competition among the sections adapted the mechanics similar to The Amazing Race.
