Today, we commemorate the Feast of Saint Padre Pio, a Capuchin priest and mystic celebrated for his profound spirituality and extraordinary gifts. Born Francesco Forgione in 1887, he dedicated his life to prayer, penance, and the sacramental life as a member of the Capuchin Order. Notably, he bore the stigmata for over 50 years, a powerful testament to his deep communion with Christ’s suffering.
On this special day, let us reflect upon the values he exemplified—faith, humility, and compassion. As Lourdesians, may we embrace these qualities in our daily lives, striving to be instruments of Jesus’ peace and love in our community, just as Padre Pio did. Let us draw inspiration from his unwavering devotion to God, his acceptance of suffering, and his commitment to simplicity and joyful service, as we journey toward becoming more like Christ. Pax et bonum!
COLLECT PRAYER
Let us pray:
Almighty ever-living God, who,
by a singular grace,
gave the Priest Saint Pio
a share in the Cross of your Son
and, by means of his ministry,
renewed the wonders of your mercy,
grant that through his intercession
we may be united constantly to the sufferings of Christ,
and so brought happily to the glory
of the resurrection.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
— Amen.
