Queen, Mother, and Patroness of the Seraphic Order
This year, we commemorate the 170th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, an essential foundation of our Catholic faith. On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX declared through the Apostolic Constitution Ineffabilis Deus that the Blessed Virgin Mary, by a unique grace from God and through the merits of Jesus Christ, was conceived without original sin.
Today, December 9, 2024, we celebrate this solemn feast, which has been moved from its traditional December 8 date to honor the Second Sunday of Advent. This holy day invites us to reflect on Mary’s purity, grace, and unwavering faith, as well as her unique role in God’s plan of salvation. For 170 years, the truth of her Immaculate Conception has inspired generations of Catholics to deepen their faith, trust in God’s providence, and turn to Mary as a model of virtue and a powerful intercessor.
For our Lourdesian families, this celebration is both a gift and a challenge. Like Mary, who courageously said “yes” to the angel’s message, we are called to live lives of holiness, trust, and complete obedience to God’s will. May this day inspire us to foster peace and love in our homes, guide our children to grow in faith, and embrace a spirit of openness to God’s grace.
As one Catholic Christian and Marian community, let us honor our Blessed Mother, striving to follow her example of faith and surrender as we draw closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
